I had the pleasure of taking the Ghost Tour in the Sindang area last Friday, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in Seoul. I’ve lived in Korea for quite some time and visited Sindang often, yet this tour revealed layers of history and culture I had never noticed. Wandering through the narrow back alleyways, hearing stories of South Korea’s past, and learning about the Japanese occupation added so much depth to a neighborhood I thought I already knew. The history surrounding the Gwanghuimun Gate was especially fascinating, and I found myself wanting to revisit the area to see it with new eyes. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable while sharing detailed stories about the shaman practices, tragic events, and spiritual folklore tied to the area. The experience was immersive, eye-opening, and surprisingly moving. I highly recommend this tour, even for long-term residents; it offers a rich, thoughtful look into Korean history and culture that you won’t forget.

This tour was one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. Walking through a neighborhood that once served as a Joseon-era burial ground and later became a settlement for shamans was fascinating. I had no idea such a historically rich place existed right next to modern Dongdaemun. The guide was truly professional. Her knowledge of the area’s history was outstanding, and she explained everything with clarity and enthusiasm. Her storytelling covered the Joseon dynasty, the Japanese colonial period, and post–Korean War history, sharing many details that would be hard to find online. The route was planned with great care, and every street added something new to the experience. Two hours passed by so quickly because the tour was so engaging. We also stopped at the famous Granny Ma Bok-lim Tteokbokki restaurant to try authentic 1950s-style tteokbokki. It was a wonderful mid-tour break that allowed us to rest, warm up, and connect with other participants. I’m extremely satisfied and highly recommend it to anyone interested in Korea’s spiritual and historical heritage.

If you're looking for something that's a little bit different, this tour is for you. This ghost tour covers the dark side of Korean history that still haunts the streets of Seoul today. It definitely helps to wear comfortable shoes for the two hour tour as there is plenty of walking. The tour guide really did her research, I can say. She took us along the maze like alleyways of the Sindang neighbourhood like a pro, pointing out subtle yet important details as we walked. She also gave each participant a piece of paper that protects one from evil spirits, which was pretty cool. Apparently, Sindang is known not only for ghosts and shamans, but also tteokbokki. We eventually made it to Tteokbokki Town, a part of Sindang that's known as being the birthplace of tteokbokki. We ate tteokbokki at the most famous tteokbokki restaurant there, a feast that I don't think anyone can finish in one sitting. Afterwards, we crossed the street and visited a local traditional market where you can find cheap, delicious street food as well as lots of cool, local eateries, cafes and bars where the younger crowd likes to hang out. Definitely recommended for those who love history as well as spicy food!

I really enjoyed this Ghost Story Walking Tour! 👻✨ One of the highlights for me was receiving a real Korean protection talisman (부적) - this bright yellow charm that’s supposed to keep spirits away. Such a fun and unique touch! 💛🔮 The alleys we walked through were beautiful and atmospheric 🏘️🌙 There weren’t many scary or dramatic ghost stories, but the historical explanations were interesting and easy to follow. I also loved that we got to eat spicy red tteokbokki - apparently it protects you from ghosts too 😄🔥🍜 Overall, the tour was light, fun, and memorable. I think it would be even cooler if it happened a bit later in the evening, when the mood gets darker and more mysterious 🌑✨ But even as it is, I had a great time and would totally recommend it for a playful, easygoing experience! 🙌💛
